The 10,000 square foot stone manor was built in the 1920's and recently underwent three years of meticulous restoration with extraordinary quality, superb craftsmanship and exquisite decor.

The classic proportions of the stone edifice belie the Arts and Crafts interior of the four story manor home of Randleston. Exquisitely crafted, using indigenous materials and local artisans, the home was commissioned in the 1920's by the owner of the Savoy-Plaza, New York Supreme Court Judge Phillip Dugrow, for his only daughter. Unfortunately, her ownership was brief due to the 1929 crash of the stock market and that event and a series of unfortunate ownerships left the property in disrepair. It was the current owners who embarked on a true restoration with meticulous attention to preserving its historical integrity.

The restoration to the interior of the home includes the replacement and updating of the wiring, plumbing, and four zone heating and cooling systems. The clean lines of the new mission style kitchen cabinetry as well as the classic fixtures, wainscoting and white subway tile in the baths, blend beautifully with the 1920's home. The walls of the Great Hall are fashioned from wood cut to the size of limestone and faux finished to resemble travertine, and the exposed beams were stripped of black varnish, exposing the natural wood. The flooring in the common areas was topped with wide board oak, and the rooms flanking the Great Hall are custom fitted with exquisite Wilton carpeting. Renovations to the exterior include repointing of the stone, a new standing seam metal roof, new Marvin divided light windows, copper gutters and the addition of c.1600 lighting fixtures.

MAIN LEVEL:

A long graceful drive circles beneath a Porte Cochere, where one enters the east side of the home into the gracious foyer. From here doors open into the dramatic Great Hall, beautifully symmetrical, grandly scaled and extending the full depth of the home. Instructions from the original owner to the architect were that this room was to be "large enough to turn a four-in-hand team". The two massive stone fireplaces facing each other are centered in the room, above which is an impressive chandelier from the estate of renowned architect, Stanford White. A second floor gallery encircles this room and provides access to the three bedrooms on the second level and a stairway to the four bedrooms of the third level.

Spacious, sun drenched rooms flank the Great Hall. To its south is an elegant sitting room/parlor, where the present owners added two sets of French doors which open to the wide stone terrace and overlook the sweeping lawns and magnificent gardens. Custom cabinetry lines one wall and frames a charming gas fireplace with slate surround. A hidden door opens to the wet bar area with marble counters and glass fronted cabinets. Also on this side of the home is the stunning library, rich with the color of its birds-eye maple faux finishes, a stone fireplace, tall windows, glass fronted bookshelves and a private bath.

On the north side of the home, the formal dining room displays magnificent 16th century Flemish wall panels that once adorned Samuel Guggenheim's penthouse at the Savoy-Plaza. The dining room includes a corner fireplace, a coffered ceiling and has glass paned French doors opening to the paneled billiards room, perfect for gracious entertaining.

A swinging door leads to the butler's pantry and accesses the gourmet country kitchen, which was completely modernized. It features state of the art appliances, a center island, floor to ceiling subway tile and Italian granite counters. This entire level creates an atmosphere of a distinguished historic estate of a fabulous bygone era.

SECOND LEVEL:

The low rise and deep run of the stairs to the second level gallery are of beautifully finished oak as is the handrail and mission style balustrade. The gallery overlooks the Great Hall with two bedrooms sharing a bath on one side and the owner's suite occupying the other side. The owner's suite includes a corner fireplace and a private sitting room with large, dramatic curved windows on the front and side walls and a barreled ceiling. The views are simply magnificent. The suite's luxurious bath is charming with subway tile and high wainscoting lining the walls. There is a steam shower, hammered nickel sinks, marble counters and spacious closets. Heated floors, a mini kitchen, private laundry and deep soaking tub, all create an ideal setting for pure relaxation.

EQUINE FACILITIES:

Currently leased to a veterinarian specializing in horse breeding, the facilities include an incredible 20 stall stone and stucco stable with ceiling and exhaust fans, providing excellent air flow.
